Eric and I are going to L.A and San Francisco next week… got any suggestions on things to do? I think at least Nightmare and Joe should have a few ideas to throw my way.
And here’s Dr. Dre and Tupac doing their best Mad Max impressions to jumpstart your weekend…
Don’t forget Chris Tucker!
Have a great trip you two!
Definitely a stop at City Lights Books is a must. And since you’ll be in the neighborhood, spend some time knocking about North Beach. Also, Chinatown is just a few blocks from there.
And I suppose since you’re tourists, you have to go out to Pier 39, in which case you could do worse than to try the sourdough bread at Boudin.
Also, if you’re a wine lover (or liker) you should take a day-trip to Napa or Sonoma. If you have time for just one winery, I would suggest V.Sattui (and pick me up a bottle of their Vin Santo while you’re there, will ya? Thanks.)
Driving up to SF or down to LA, stop at the Hearst Mansion
- they have i believe 2 or 3 scheduled tours a day – and
try to imagine the original view to the west…
Ok the best place to eat in Downtown SF is the Stinking Rose, and the best place for after drinking dining and continued drinking is The Fog City Diner(As seen in “So I married an Axe Murderer”)

Not to mention the obvious, but you will need to park and walk to Golden Gate park and snap some pictures of the bridge and if the zoom is good enough Alcatraz. (this stuff is free with the exception of maybe parking)Naturally there is the world famous Lombard street “The crookedest street in the world” Also a freebie, and then I would walk the tourist trap known as Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39. I would suggest “Chowder’s” at Pier 39 for their clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl,,,,it is to maim for…not kill but I would put a good limp on someone for one of their bowls!
While down at Pier 39 spend some time watching the sea lions that hang out on every available empty stretch of real estate, fascinating creatures. This can all be done in one day if you hurry, but I would take a couple if you have the time! I expect many pictures!!
Alcatraz is fun!
Sna Francisco -
Houlihans for ribs and Chic’s place for drinks – Fisherman’s wharf
The exploratorium – all hands on science
Muir Woods – across the bridge or Big Basin Redwoods in Santa Cruz
Followup
And if your driving definitley Highway One down the coast
I hate to tell you this but I hate San Francisco and never go there. But, driving up or down the coast is classic as is Mt Tam and Muir Woods. Sorry this is late, I suck.
